I have often wondered how couples pick their "Song." It occurred to me recently that my husband's and my song is On the Dock of the Bay. I began to think about him, and it is the song that is most us, and it holds many memories of our marriage. We played it as new parents to quiet our newborn son many a night. My husband would put it on the stereo and sway with our son singing to him until he quieted. It is also the song for the holidays. My husband would put it on while I was in the kitchen slaving over holiday dishes that he loved. He would come up behind me, swaying with me to the music, until I would stop in the middle of my pie making to dance around the kitchen with him. Dock of the Bay is also a song of goodbye for us, he played it before he left for war, holding me close and telling me it would be all right, he would be back soon. So I am waiting for him to come home to play it again.

You know, it's almost magical how a song can be so comforting. It can be the one thing that connects two people together, even when they are so very far apart. Strange also, how it seems to come on the radio at the exact time you need to hear it. I like to think of it as one of God's little gifts to us. It offers just the right amount of encouragement to keep our spirits up and our hearts alive.
